The Power of Climate-Smart Farming Among Single Mothers

In Uganda’s rural communities, agriculture is more than a way of life—it is a lifeline. Yet, climate change, land degradation, and poor farming practices have left many single mothers in a cycle of poverty and food insecurity. DECODI is breaking this cycle through our Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) training.

Women are taught how to grow drought-resistant crops, apply organic compost, rotate crops, and conserve water. These are practical, sustainable methods that not only improve yields but also preserve the environment. Participants also learn post-harvest handling, food storage techniques, and how to access local markets.

Many mothers now grow enough to feed their families and sell surplus for income. This new knowledge leads to better nutrition, improved household incomes, and financial independence. Agriculture, once a burden, becomes a blessing.

I never thought I could feed my family from my garden. Now we eat well and even sell extra food.” — Janet, Amuria District
